• The Moon

You see just half of me,

the remaining one is always on an excursion,

To a world unlike yours,

with similar ardour and affection,

The ecstasy of union is the same,

similar is the agony of separation,

Worlds differ just materially,

identical are romance and passion.

• चंद्रमा

    उन दिनों मैं नियमित युद्धाभ्यास के लिए हमारे दल के साथ राजस्थान में था। सूरज ढलते ही रेगिस्तान में ठंडक अपना जादू बिखेरना आरंभ करती थी। जो दिन में अत्यधिक तापमान से भयावह लगती, वही महीन रेत रात को माँ की गोद का सुकून दिलाती थी; और इन सब में मिसरी घोलने चाँद भी आ जाता था। कभी अर्धरूप, तो कभी पूर्ण में। मीलों दूर फैली रेत पर बिखरी दूधिया कौमुदी, टिमटिमाते तारे, और पूर्णिमा का चंद्रमा; मुझे सम्मोहित करने के लिए इतना पर्याप्त था। मैं न जाने कितनी देर तक सृष्टि की उस अनुपम कलाकृति को देखता; किंतु कभी संतुष्टि हुई ही नहीं।

     ‘चंद्रमा’ सृष्टि से जुड़ी मेरी रचनाओं की श्रुंखला की एक कड़ी है; बाक़ी कड़ियों की तरह ही अपूर्ण।

सब कहते हैं दाग़ हैं मुझमें, माँ नज़र उतारते न थकी,

जानती थी तुम यूँ ही ताकोगे, कस्र न उसने छोड़ी बाक़ी,

बस उसीसे डटा हुआ हूँ, हृदय पर निशाँ हर छोडूँ मैं बाक़ी,

देख मेरी लीला हो विचलित, छलकाता पात्र को साक़ी।

• Autumn

Rustle of the leaves narrates,

a fairy tale so melancholic,

Even today, the aroma of the dusk,

makes the surroundings nostalgic,

Clouds restrain the moonlit blues,

Jasmine no longer feels ecstatic,

Crimson skies fail to find solace,

in the noise of memories chaotic.
